In honor of Eudora Welty’s April 13 birthday, the Welty House and Garden and Mississippi Department of Archives and History today announced #WeltyatHome, a new virtual book club. The first pick is Losing Battles, noted as Welty’s most ambitious novel. It was published April 13, 1970, on Welty’s 61st birthday, and it is about a family’s birthday gathering. Today marks the 50th anniversary of its publication.

Over the course of 10 weeks, participants will read an average of 45 pages at a time. Welty’s friend and biographer, Dr. Suzanne Marrs, will lead live discussions on Wednesdays at noon CST, starting April 29. Those unable to log in to the live event may follow along on social media. The video conferencing site to be utilized will be announced soon.

Sign in information, details, and weekly reminders will be updated on the Welty House and Garden Facebook Events page.
