Mississippi students in grades 7-12 are invited to submit their creative writing to the 2021 Scholastic Writing Awards Program. Deadline for entries is 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2020. Late entries will not be entered into the competition. The program is open to students in all of Mississippi’s 82 counties in public, independent, and home-school settings.

The program is made possible by a generous grant from the C Spire Foundation to the Eudora Welty Foundation, according to Sally Birdsall, administrator of the Mississippi Writing Region of the program. This is the 90th anniversary of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Program of the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers.

Participants must register online, and all writing entries must be uploaded here.

Please print one copy of each completed submission form and obtain required signatures. One copy of each signed submission form and accompanying entry fees (or fee waiver request form) must be mailed or delivered to: Eudora Welty Education and Visitors Center, Attention: Scholastic Writing Awards, 1109 Pinehurst Street, Jackson, MS 39202.

Fees include a $7 fee per individual submission and a $25 fee per portfolio submission. Submit cash, checks, or money orders made payable to the Eudora Welty Foundation. Any student who finds fees a barrier to participation may request a submission fee waiver on the Mississippi Scholastic affiliate website. This form must be signed by a parent or guardian, and the form must accompany each submission. For more information, contact Sally Birdsall at sallybirdsl@gmail.com.

Mississippi regional award winners will be notified via student accounts on January 31, 2021.
