Monica Miller, an advanced graduate student at Louisiana State University, received the 2012 Welty Research Fellowship. She worked in the Welty Collection at the Mississippi Department of Archives and History earlier this summer conducting research for her dissertation. Miller’s research focuses on the figure of the ugly woman in Southern literature. Having recently presented a paper on Welty’s A Curtain of Green, Miller examined Welty’s other published and uncollected stories and correspondence, particularly with Katherine Anne Porter.
