Three outstanding authors will read from their work on Thursday, April 21, at 5:30 p.m. in the James and Madeleine McMullan Lecture Hall of the Selby and Richard McRae Christian Center at Millsaps College. Presentations by Henry Svec, Jamie Dickson, and Michael Martella will conclude the Visiting Writers Series for this academic year.

Svec’s work has included performance, music, theatre, criticism, and game design. He currently teaches at the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

Poets Jamie Dickson and Michael Martella will open the evening’s program by reading from their work. They will both be teaching creative writing courses at Millsaps during the 2022-2023 academic year. Dickson teaches English and creative writing at Germantown High School in Madison, MS. An award-winning poet and literary magazine advisor, his first poetry collection, Some Sweet Vandal, will be published by Kelsay Books this summer. Martella is a former biology and environmental science teacher, and his poetry has been published widely. He currently works at University Press of Mississippi.

The program is free and open to the public. Lemuria Books will have copies of the authors’ works available for purchase. The Eudora Welty Foundation helps sponsor the Visiting Writers Series.
