An intimate evening concert on April 24 on the front lawn of The Cedars in Jackson featured singer/songwriter Claire Holley and Friends and an evening of bourbon tasting, local craft beers, and barbecue.

“The Photography of Eudora Welty,” an exhibition of over 40 Welty photos, was also available for tours in the historic home. The Fondren Renaissance Foundation, partnering with the Eudora Welty Foundation, sponsored the exhibit and the concert. The photos, some of which were shown publicly for the first time, were taken by Welty in the 1930s and depicted Jackson and the surrounding area.

See Resources on this website for educational materials based on “Pleasant Dreams,” a song written by Claire Holley based on Welty’s short story “The Whistle.” Holley will receive a Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters Award for contemporary musical composition on June 7, 2014, at the Mississippi Museum of Art.
