Children will be introduced to Eudora Welty’s only children’s book, The Shoe Bird, on Saturday, January 15, in a special program coordinated by Jennifer Rose, Welty House and Garden Education Specialist. The program will begin at 10 a.m. at the Eudora Welty Education and Visitors Center and engage participants in the book as well as a clever crafts activity.

Rose will read excerpts from the book and discuss the story and its characters with the children. Then the children will participate in a creative session writing quips from the story and coloring pictures of birds and shoes. They will then print buttons with their creations on them for them to take home and wear.

The program is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Jennifer Rose by email at                         jrose@mdah.ms.gov or by phone at 601-354-5215 or 601-353-7762.
