Sally Birsdall, Mississippi’s Regional Scholastic Writing Awards Adminstrator for the Eudora Welty Foundation  in partnership with the Eudora Welty House and Garden, has announced the 2022 guidelines for students in grades 7-12. Teachers in public and independent schools throughout the state have been contacted with this information. A generous grant from the C Spire Foundation continues to support the program in all 82 counties of Mississippi.

Student winners will be recognized locally for their work, and Gold Kay-winning students at the regional level will compete nationally against some of the most talented young writers in the country.

Mississippi Regional Scholastic Writing Awards information may be found here.  The deadline for entries to be delivered to the Eudora Welty Education and Visitors Center at 1109 Pinehurst Streeet, Jackson, MS 39202, is Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at 5 p.m. Students must register and submit electronic copies of each of their manuscripts here. Regional awards winners will be notified via student accounts on January 31, 2022.

One copy of each signed submission form and accompanying entry fees (or fee waiver request form) must arrive at the Eudora Welty House Education and Visitors Center no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2021. Late entries will not be entered into the competition.

The submission fee is $7 per individual submission and a $25 fee per portfolio submission. Submit cash, checks, or money orders made payable to the Eudora Welty Foundation. Any student who finds the fees a barrier to participation may request a submission fee waiver. This form must be signed by a parent or guardian, and the form must accompany each submission.
